December 2nd, 2009: OMSI After Dark

OMSI After Dark is an opportunity for the 21-and-over crowd to explore the museum in a child-free environment. Here's your chance to shoot off water rockets, concoct chemical creations, and enjoy the wonders of OMSI with no kids in sight! Current exhibits are Scream! Featuring Goose Bumps! The Science of Fear--examine the physiological, neurobiological, and sociological aspects of fear--and, Science On a Sphere--OMSI's new permanent exhibit in the Earth Science Hall on the second floor.

Visitors will also be able to taste and learn the science behind food and beverage favorites with these local artisans: Hotlips Soda, Honest Tea, The Empress, Cucpcake Jones and New Deal Distillery.

OMSI has some very special treats in store for their Holiday After Dark Event: professional juggler and former Smithsonian artist-in-residence, Rhys Thomas; "Shocks and Zaps" and "Tornado of Fire" demonstrations by OMSI educators; 10% discount at the OMSI Science Store; and photos with Santa!

December 5th , 2009: New Deal Distillery's Season’s Eatings

As we prepare for the holidays, we each have our own culinary traditions. When it comes down to it, regardless of what we cook, we all share the same desire –to create through a meal, a meaningful experience for ourselves and those we care for. How fortunate we are then, to have a plethora of amazing local food artisans, vintners and distillers right in our own backyard. Choosing locally when we decide what to bring, serve or give during the holiday season reflects respect for ourselves and appreciation for the environment that sustains us. It strengthens our local food economy, and lends support to the family farms who make it all possible. It allows us to create holiday traditions that are meaningful on so many levels.

Please join us at the Distillery and Tasting Room for a spirited holiday market event celebrating our area’s finest chocolates, cheeses, wines, spirits and foodstuffs to benefit the Oregon Food Bank. Meet the artisans behind the culinary treasures, sample extraordinary local spirits, and find something wonderful for every foodie on your list. Admission is free with 1 non-perishable food item or cash donation for the Oregon Food Bank.

Guest vendors include Organics to You, Monteillet Fromagerie, Random Order Coffeehouse, Nonna's Noodles, Xocolatl de David, Black Sheep Bakery, Little Red Bike Café, Velo Café, River Wave Foods, Pacific Pies and more!
