Celebrate the Derby's 13th year and 100 Year Anniversary of Mt. Tabor Park with some fun derby races. Their mission statement says it all: 'It is our drive towards success of our ongoing experiment to stay young, yet not so young. Practicing safety with speed, ingenuity with science and creative tenacity in art of building and racing Adult Soapbox Cars. With a bit of luck, hard work and communication with all parties we will persevere. "We thank our beloved Volcano for allowing us to tickle her back."'

August 25th, 2009: New Deal Distillers Guest Appearance on the Ed Forman Show
Master Distiller, Tom Burkleaux, will be the featured guest on the Ed Forman Show at Dante's. From Ed's website: "Ed Forman makes history every Tuesday night in Portland, when he hosts his own live, 70s style, late-night talk show . . . . Each week audiences are treated to a mix of life-changing motivational lessions, impoversihed comedy sketches, music from a new local house-band, and in-depth interviews with some of Portland's wildest characters. As a late-night talk show host, Ed has been labeled the Uber-Host: a delightful mix of Johnny Carson, Ellen, Oprah and a drunk."

August 28th, 2009: Safety in Numbers 2009: Portland Women's Crisis Line 7th Annual Gala to End Domestic and Sexual Violence
Honorary Chair County Commissioner Deborah Kafoury cordially invites you to Safety In Numbers 2009 at the Gerding Theater at the Armory. Enjoy great music, a silent and live auction and yummy food and drinks. Katie O’Grady will emcee the event and State Representative Chip Shields (N/NE) will be the special guest speaker.
Working to fulfill their mission of “ending domestic and sexual violence by providing confidential support services and education to empower our community,” the Portland Women’s Crisis Line (PWCL) operates a comprehensive 24/7 Crisis Line and Sexual Assault Advocacy Program. In any language, the Crisis Line can provide needs assessments, peer support, safety planning, crisis intervention and information and referrals to community resources. The Sexual Assault Program provides specialized services to survivors of sexual assault.

Resident Shut Up & Dance DJ, Disc Jockey Gregarious, will be hosting his 10 year anniversary party as a benefit for KBOO Radio. Portland's longest running weekly dance party at Fez Ballroom is sure to fill up more quickly than usual with all proceeds benefiting community radio station, KBOO. Along with Gregarious, special guest DJ will be KBOO's, Brandon, AKA Drinking from Puddles.
